Taylor 114ce Review

Could the Taylor 114ce be the best guitar in this price range? If you're shopping for a guitar right now, then you have probably seen this one being recommended by most guitarists around the globe. It is also available in most music shops.

In our previous post, we have compared and analyzed different acoustic guitars, but let's shift our attention to this one now.

SUMMARY

This guitar is pretty amazing in all the right categories. It is solidly constructed and is going to withstand the test of time.

Considering it's a bit smaller then most Taylor guitars, it actually projects quite a nice sounding low-end which you wouldn't necessarily expect from a guitar this size.

Gorgeous Finish

Look:

You should know that this guitar has a gorgeous finish. The solid Sitka spruce top is amazing. Plus, it is going to remain gorgeous for a long time to come.

Moreover, this guitar can really take a beating. As long as you take good care of it, there's a pretty good chance that it will last the rest of your life.

Needless to say, the Taylor 114ce is definitely something that will bring you a lot of attention. If you’re interested in buying a guitar that looks and sounds AMAZING, this one shouldn’t be ignored.

The Pickup

It is always nice to have a guitar that is equipped with a pickup.

Good news:

The Taylor 114CE comes with electronics! This guitar features the expression system transducer pickup. It is a single source transducer that is under saddle. There are individual elements for each string. It is also equipped with an onboard preamp and active controls, which are similar to the ones found on the full expression system.

Just remember: everything is powered by a 9-volt battery. The battery’s life is easy to determine by using the LED power indicator.

Finally, you should know that the pickup has a phase switch so you can control the feedback.

The Cutaway

News flash:

The Taylor 114ce features a Venetian cutaway.

Why do I say this? Because it is going to make a HUGE difference and it’ll provide you with quick and easier access to the guitar’s upper frets. Do you see where we're going with this?

Perhaps unsurprisingly: many electric guitar players are familiar with the cutaway and the freedom that it delivers. If you fit into this category, you’re going to love the Taylor 114ce.

This guitar’s cutaway had soft and round lines. You won’t have to worry about having any difficulty reaching those upper frets.

Tuners

Get this:

You’ll want to take advantage of the chrome-plate tuners. Taylor Tuners tend to be some of the best in the industry. They feature an 18:1 fear ratio and they’re capable of delivering exceptional precision.

The gear cutting process is pretty similar to what is used by Swiss watchmakers. Therefore, you can guarantee that you’re going to get a great sound and superb craftsmanship.

Lightweight

Unfortunately, some guitars are simply too heavy. Naturally, you want to avoid those type of models. After all, they’re going to be uncomfortable to use.

Surprisingly enough: this guitar is sturdy made, but it is still lightweight. After all, it only weighs right around 10 pounds. Once you’ve picked it up, you’ll realize that it's not going to break your back, no sir!

Gig Bag Included

Sadly, many guitars come with very little. This is something that you certainly want to avoid. After all, you’re spending a lot of money and you deserve more.

I tell you what though: this guitar comes with a pretty spacious gig bag. It will hold everything that you need, including your guitar, extra strings and more picks.

Whether you’re heading to a music venue, studio or a friend’s place, the gig bag will make a big difference!

Grand Auditorium

Believe it or not:

Bob Taylor designed the Grand Auditorium shape from scratch. Since that time, people across the world have fallen in love with its massive sound. While the guitar might have the same depth and width of a Dreadnought, it actually looks much different.

You’ll notice the added zing when you begin playing.

In fact, the design of this guitar also helped to add precision to the individual notes. And you know what? It ensures that the guitar is going to remain comfortably on your lap at all times. This guitar is great in all categories and the design is just the icing on the cake.

Remember that the Grand Auditorium is available in two styles. You can choose between 6 and 12 strings.

The bottom line is this:

There is a lot to like about the Taylor 114CE and not much to dislike. It sounds great and looks just as good. Is it a bit expensive? Sure, but it’ll prove to be well worth it in the long run. It's that simple.

If you want an outstanding guitar that is suitable for all skill levels, this one is well worth checking out.
