Radiohead Has Changed The Game

In RainbowsIn June of 2006 I wrote a post on my old blog about Radiohead, and how they could potentially shift music business into 2.0 with digital self distribution of an album. It seems that very thing has come to pass.

With very little fanfare, they have launched a site for their next release, In Rainbows. To be made available only by pre-order (as either a box set/ digital or digital only) through this website at first.

The Empire Strikes Back

Hey guys, things have been a little crazy for me as i just started a new job on the digital/ mobile side at one of those big ol’ major labels I’ve been talking shit about for the last decade or so. So far the people I’ve been dealing with are all very smart and very much aware of the changing scope of the business. I hope to use my experiences in this new environment to help smaller labels get a better grasp of the overall future of the marketplace.

Virgil has been ever so kind as to still allow me to stay on as a contributor. I hope to begin posting again soon.

Lumberjack Mordam shuts down California office/warehouse, phases out paper mailers

Lumberjack Mordam announced earlier this week that they were shutting down operations of their Sacremento office/warehouse and consolidating everything to their Toledo office/warehouse. In the same press release, they mentioned that they are going to stop making paper mailers and primarily send out digital mailers to update buyers with new releases. You can read the entire press release below.

I remember going to the Lumberjack Mordam conferences when they announced the merger and thought that they should consider consolidating offices/warehouses as it seemed silly to me to have 2. And I don’t think it is a bad move to move to a paperless mailer. It saves money, creates less waste, and when I get inundated with mailers, I usually just throw them away. Now if they can only work on a better html email format, they should be all set. I hope nothing but good things for LMMG and hope these cost saving efforts help their bottom line. We all have to take ever single expense and scrutinize over them these days as sales continue to shrink.

Blogotheque: Take Away Shows!

I’m loving what the folks over at Take Away Shows are doing. If you haven’t checked out the site before I highly recommend you do. They basically take a band and film them outside playing live and uncut in some sort of unique environment…

Here are a few I particularly enjoyed:
