In 2003, Bill Sagan purchased a warehouse full of rock memorabilia which was owned by the late Bill Graham. Reports say that he spent close to 5 million dollars for an undisclosed about of memorabilia. It took Bill Sagan and a team of archivists years to catalog everything they had. Of all the items, there were nearly 7,000 recordings from 7,000 different performances ranging from The Who to Led Zeppelin to Black Sabbath to the Clash. They are putting up many of these recordings at a site they started called Wolfgang’s Vault. I am currently listening to the Clash recording of a 1979 concert in Cleveland, Ohio and it sounds rad. You can stream all of their recordings for free by just signing up for a free login. Highly recommended.

AOL is again hosting a full album streams and this week, they have the debut from Ex-Blink 182 members Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker, + 44. It just dawned on me that having a band name +44 could be a nightmare for search engines and for trying to find in a record store. I would guess that they would put it towards the front of the rock, but I had until today thought it was spelled out Plus 44. Either way, check it out. I am curious to know what you all think. I actually like it and was pretty certain that I wouldn’t. If I had to vote + 44 or Angels and Airwaves, I would have to go + 44. To access the full album streams, click here.

My friend, Keith, over at ASCAP just sent me an email letting me know about a podcast they just posted:
ASCAP just launched our first “ASCAP Studio Session” podcast w/ Stephen Brodsky, and it rules! I’m stoked, I’m a HUGE Cave In fan, feel free to post in IndieHQ’s free music section, b/c it’s downloadable.
download here, first podcast on the screen
direct mp3 link to listen online or download
I am about to download it as I am a huge Brodsky fan. I absolutely love his solo album, “Ole Sunday”. Stephen is just one of those cats that make you jealous as to just how talented he is. Thanks Keith.

To promote upcoming albums from Tim Barry and Drag the River, we have been making CD samplers featuring tracks from “Rivanna Junction” and “Hobo’s Demos”. The sampler also has tracks from “it’s Crazy” and Ghost Buffalo’s self-titled album. 8 Tracks in all. We decided why not just post the entire sampler online, too, for any and all to download. So we ask you to stop by the page, download some songs, and if you wouldn’t mind, please tell your friends to also stop by the site. We still have our label sampler that we posted a few months ago and now the free sampler page will give you access to download either sampler.

I just forced myself to listen to the enitre Kevin Federline album, “Playing with Fire”. You can stream it in its entirety on AOL’s listening party by clicking this link. If more than 50 people buy it this week, i will be blown away. I thought it would be bad, but it really doesn’t get much more generic than this.
If you are going to listen to some albums on AOL, make sure you listen to these:
Lady Sovereign, ‘Public Warning’
Willie Nelson, ‘Songbird’
Deftones, ‘Saturday Night Wrist’

I have been slacking when it comes to updates about what is going on at Daytrotter. These kind folks have been working overtime to bring everyone free sessions with some fo the greatest bands on the planet. Every week they post a new session and you can download the songs as mp3s at no cost to you. Pretty brilliant and the reason I interviewed them a while back.
They have posted a number of sessions since I have last written about them. Here are a list of just some of the bands they have done a daytrotter session with:
Free Songs: Of Montreal
Free Songs: P.O.S.
Free Songs: Page France
Free Songs: Bonnie Prince Billy
Free Songs: Cold War Kids
Free Songs: Two Gallants
If any of these bands strike your interest, make sure you visit the site and check out the other sessions. I think it is amazing that they work so hard to do this from recording the bands, to making artwork, to the use of bandwidth, all for free consumption by you and me.
