An Idea to post mp3s of recorded phone calls with your artists
So I just made a post over at the Suburban Home site where I posted mp3s of snippets of a conversation, I had with Jon Snodgrass of Drag the River/Armchair Martian. I recently figured out a pretty easy way to record phone conversations and can post the recordings as mp3s. I thought it might be a cool way to offer visitors of our site interesting things to listen to about our acts and about our label.
I was curious your thoughts and feedback on this. I think that it will be a neat way for me to discuss new signings, recordings, tours, and even fun stuff like what bands our acts are listening to and our artists’ interests.
I know what you are thinking, why not just do a podcast? Well, to be honest, I don’t have the time to produce a half hour or hour episode and feel that if I can offer short, but sweet conversations with interesting people, there might be some people who look forward to future converstions.
Please check out the original post where Jon Snodgrass discusses the upcoming Armchair Martian Tour, the final Drag the River album, Recording solo material, and a few bands he likes.

I don’t think it’s a bad idea at all. I think the presentation of it is really important though. Maybe make a little one MP3 streaming player… this isn’t really something people want to download, but it is something that fans (and curious folks) will check out.

I was thinking about that, kind of like how issue oriented has a streaming player where you can give listens with the click of a mouse. thanks for the suggestion. I will work on that

Great idea in part for its simplicty. But tag a stock intro and a piece of music at the end from the and you really do have a podcast.
What are you using to do the recordings?

I starting subsribing to 2recall.com which allows you to call a 1-800 number from any phone, dial your own member code, and then it will record any phone call you make and save the files online as .wav files. I then edit using Audacity and then comvert to mp3 with Itunes. It sounds like more work than it really is though.

one more thing, I forgot to do it with this post, but I was planning on inviting any potential podcasters to use any of our conversations in their podcasts.

This is fantastic. We should also potentially do this with people in the biz… who would the readers like to see a “fireside chat” with?

I’m also thinking if we add RSS to this .mp3 it would be a podcast.

if you subsribe to our feed in Itunes, all the mp3s we post will post like they do for other podcasts. I was thinking it would be cool to chat with people in the industry for sure and post it here.
As long as we keep them short and sweet, it could be cool.
