Stream: Screeching Weasel “Anthem for a new Tomorrow”

I am really excited to share with you the full album stream of Screeching Weasel’s “Anthem for a New Tomorrow”. I had called Mike Park the other day about wanting to stream something from Asian Man on IndieHQ and he said that he was ok with me streaming whatever I wanted. I thought about this for a while and I just had to post “Anthem for a New Tomorrow” which is my favorite Weasel album; with “My Brain Hurts” being a close second.

I hope a few of you consider giving this album a listen. This is the scene that inspired me to start a label and got me excited about independent music. For quite some time, Screeching Weasel, were my favorite band and this album will always hold a soft spot in my heart. My terrible college pop-punk band even covered “Totally” at the few house parties we played.

When Mike Park announced that he was re-issuing all of the Screeching Weasel catalog, I was so excited for him. Although punk rock has become a completely different thing in 2007, I don’t know where I would have been if not for the pop-punk scene of the early to mid 90’s.

SW has been my favorite punk band since Lookout reissued Boogada and My Brain Hurts came out. Anthem was always my favorite. I was super into the whole early 90s pop punk stuff too. I had all that stuff. It’s been hard to breathe the words ‘pop-punk’ the last several years though.

I actually started up the first kind-of ‘official’ SW web page back in 1995. I just discovered that the Wayback Machine has an archive of it. It had been retired and orphaned when I graduated college in 1997, and I had it finally deleted a couple years ago:

i also did some reviews of the Asian Man Weasel reissues on my blog:

    This album is fantastic.

It also earns some points for Blake Schwarzenbach being on the album!

I stumbled upon this website, just wanted to put in my 2 cents.
first off i love Screeching Weasel. i own their catalog and read both books by Ben, but enough about me, i think “How to make enemies and irritate people” should not be overlooked. its one of my favorite albums over all, not just because it includes Mike Drint of “Green Day”, but because i think it was one of the more well put together early albums. Mass Giorgini has produced nothing but gold for them. its an early abum, but i think its where they found their sound. check it out if you get a chance. “I hate your guts on sunday” is one of my favorites. well written. take it or leave it.

[…] Re: Salutations… If you were in the US there’s a website where you could listen to all of their stuff for free, but since you’re not (and neither am I)… Screeching Weasel - MySpace Music Here you can listen to the whole album Anthem For A New Tomorrow. Uh, yeah. That’s about all I can find. Oh, and there are some live videos on YouTube, but the quality of recording is generally awful. It’s rare stuff. […]
