Starbucks sucks!
My brother just sent me a link to an article saying that Starbucks has stopped the free iced coffee deal in the southeast. It looks as though the original offer was meant for friends and family of Starbucks’ employees and got out of hand. You would think that Starbucks would have a better marketing strategy than one that could possibly get out of hand. I promise that from this point on, I will never mention Starbucks within the pages of IndieHQ. Starbucks, I hate you!

Remember that one time .. Starbucks charged 911 victims and emergency workers for water .. or that one time Starbucks relied on labor exploitation to turn profits .. I’ve already said too much …
support independent businesses … or make your own damn coffee

I have left 15 messages over two weeks for their Mid Atlantic Marketing Manager (Lisa Pomarantz) about making arrangements to serve 3,000 people (not a donation) and haven’t heard from her yet. My fondness towards Starbucks has done a complete turnaround. I may love the beverages, but its only coffee and I will NEVER purchase anything from there again. The fake smiley face facade reminds me of Wal Mart. Where’s Dunkin Donuts?

My brother used to work for ConglomoBucks years back. He would tell me about the working conditions, lack of raises and health ins. Honestly I thought he was simply complaining. Then he tells me of Bucks coming into strip malls and buying a 5 year lease on the condition that the mom and pop coffee shops may only sell coffee, no latte, no pastry, just coffee. He also tells me that Bucks is “strip harvesting” from places like Vietnam, and causing trouble with the contry from wich coffee was born, Ethiopia.
Buck’s product is substandard and overpriced. Their bussiness tactics are deplorable. I live in San Diego, near Mira Msea Blvd. On that road, at last count there were 7 along a 4 mile stretch of road. Do you know of any other campany that has done that? Wal Mart is close, but Wal Mart cant fit inside a grocery store. If you are in SD, PLEASE check out The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, or Cafe Moto. Better coffee, from people that actually care about what they make and what you drink.
P.S. I was just in Ethioipa on a Missions trip and bought tons of coffee from the locals. Even with the slightly elevated prices of the coffee in the cities, I was able to buy 3 kilos for about the same price of 8 0z of Bucks’ . If you really love buna and have a chance to go, buy it from where coffee was invented. Down with big bad coffee!

If I have a choice, I don’t go to Starbucks, but rather to a mom and pop Cafe. In fact, my wife runs an independent coffee house. She’s grateful that Starbucks created an awareness for good coffee.
Don’t just bitch about Starbucks without knowing your facts, for example: (1) Most Mom and Pop have crappy Espresso with next to no crema on it. Starbucks coffee may not be outstanding, but it’s consistenly very good. (2) If you consider them overpriced, don’t visit them. You are free to spend your money where you think you get a good value. Obviously, a lot of people think they get a good value, otherwise they would go to Dunkin Donuts. Don’t forget, you not only pay for the coffee, but also for the comfy chairs, music, fast service, etc. (3) Starbucks isn’t doing “strip harvesting” - they buy from the coffee exchanges like everyone else (like the big food processors like Kraft, etc., who buy in much higher volumes than Starbucks). (4) The benefits (health insurance and stock options) that Starbucks offers are unmatched in retail - they really treat their people well.

I’m agreeing with Michael on this one. I’m a seasoned Starbucks employee and love the company. While most companies out there are charging their employees $300.00 to $500.00 for their insurance. I get my medical, dental, vision, short and long term disability all for under 60 a month. I get stock options at a discount price and 401k. Starbucks is also very loyal to their farmers they pay premium prices to help coffee farmers make profits and support their families. Starbucks is one of America’s largest purchasers of Fair Trade Coffee to promote responsible, environmental and economic efforts. Our store on any given weekend will donate our time and give back to the community in some way. We also put up with alot of unnesessary attitude trying to educate you..the public about coffee and tea. So before you bash Starbucks ..do your research…
